Terran Marine 2 by SgtHK Terran Marine 2 by SgtHK
Before/After

My first step in texturing him. After UV unwrapping the major parts, along with a few additional modeling tweaks, I applied bump maps to add further detail.

Next step will be the actual texturing.

Looks totally awesome + I love powered armors. But let me criticize - legs could be a bit longer, and more massive, now they're overwhelmed by the torso. But I guess much can't be done at this stage...?

The legs are exactly the same length as in the original SC2 marine made by Blizzard.

Oh, I know that for sure. But nobody is perfect right? This was just a casual suggestion anyway:)

Awesome jobs, looks absolutely amazing :) Out of interest how long did it take to unwrap? It looks like a very long and complicated job despite the facts a lot of stuff is mirrored.

It took pretty much 2 days for me to unwrap this. :D

I thought it might have done. Was it a particularly difficult one or just time consuming? Also did you use the max unwrap tools or do you use any additional software/plugins?

Thanks :)

I haven't used any plugins or other software to unwrap. Just the 3ds Max UVW unwrap tools. It wasn't difficult as I knew what I was doing. It was just time consuming because sometimes I needed to click every single polygon on the low-poly mesh.

+1 for Mesk :)
And... may I ask where do you get your lightprobes from? :)
As for the model - awesomeness, but that was to be expected :)

The lightprobe I used in this render came with 3ds Max. But you can always download the lightprobes from this site:

It's shaping up quite dandily. Now, if only you were making the ingame models in sc2 and not the current failures they have who totally ignore concept art and demolish perfectly good units.

I find some SC2 game units looking pretty good. Others not so much. Most of the units I don't like are Zerg with their uber-glossy skin.

Well, I mostly have gripes with stuff like the Battlecruiser, which just looks silly</> at best. And the Hellion.

I don't think Blizzard really knows how to use normal maps. Most of the terrain that has normal maps is also overly glossy.

Excellent. Looking very professional. I read that this took you about 2 and a half weeks but the question how many hours a day did you clock at?:strong:

Oh wow. Well after I'm done with one piece of the marine, I usually play 1 game of StarCraft and then I get back to work again, not to mention occasional rides on the couch for some TV. So I'm not sure how many hours a day I actually work. But I think it's about 5 hours. :D

Hmmm, about 1-4 hours 3-7 times a week here but rather than a ride to the couch it is a ride to work or a run to the gym.:)
