Phobos by SgtHK Phobos by SgtHK
UPDATE:

Sorry, everyone. The guys back at the Sons of War forums thought the Phobos model I submitted here looked too soft and not monsterous enough, along with a few other things like the legs being too small. So this time, I decided to re-sculpt and re-texture the model.

Unfortunately, we decided that, from now on, we should only post SoW updates in our official gallery site. [link]

So this WIP image of Phobos' new head is the only thing I will show you. This will be the last Sons of War model I will submit to DeviantArt (until our project is finished). All models that are strictly Sons of War content will be put in our gallery site.

<3

PS: 3d models like Battlecruisers, Marines, Zealots, and Zerglings are not "strictly" Sons of War material. So I'll be free to post them here ;)

The whole idea is nice but one thing that bugs me:
The zergs resemble more like insects with thin or almost no human-like (or mammal like for this case) muscle mass and build.
Anyway,I would rather make it "stringy" a bit. Nice thing to look at is the ultralisk and the devourer. They are huge beasts but still they have more bones and naked muscles out than huge muscle mass, or a lurker or a hydralisk (witch this guy is the closest I guess), they are build up in the same idea ^^
Another thing is that if you make it more thin and bony, it will look WAY more scarier xD Like some dried out corpse or zomby or whatnot... zergs tend to look like some 2-3 month old corpse anyway ;P When most of the skin started to rot away, leaving the flesh + muscles visible.
Just my 2 cents ;)

This is a Protoss-Zerg hybrid

Yup I realised it just after posting ^^;
Still, protoss don't have such a muscle mass that Phobos got here ;P
Even if it a bruiser type creature, the most muscled protoss wouldn't get even close to Phobos's muscles xD Protoss + zergs alike, they are thin but strong. It looks strange this way.
Just my opinion ^^;

Nah, don't worry dude. I get what you're saying. This isn't a final version. We are still changing stuff around. I doubt if any 3d model you see in my gallery are final versions.

Thanks for the advice!

Well it is still really impressive how you did your 3D modelling :3
I would die half way if I would need to do this ^^;

Allright... 1st about the model - Awesomeness :) Only thing is I'm not sure if this thing fits the zerg style all that much... I mean the muscles especially.
The second thing - what's up with sons of war after all? I saw you discussed something with MoH on his page and you said there that what remains of the team is mostly artists...
...and can I join? (just kidding, I suck :D)

I refered to Increible Hulk for the muscles. I'm not sure if it qualifies as Zerg. But hey, it's the style after all ;D

Just remembered a thing from a starcraft book (liberty's crusade, lots of tech info there for you if you want it :) ) - it was mentioned there that, for example, the zergling's muscles were clearly visible through the skin (if there was any skin actually)... That combined with some more zerg art from starcraft2.com/sonsofthestorm/whatnot (official art) and well... I guess you got it :)
Seems to me that the zerg are way different than the everyday monster type... More like the aliens(the avp series) but then again without the metallic plating and more colorful/biological/unfinished even (without upper skin layers, stuff like that, grotesque in a way)...
In a way I kinda see it as comparing an orc to an elf(rather twisted one ofc ^_^) but not exactly... damn it I really need to wake up :)
Now pressing the send button w/o even reviewing what I wrote...
